As you may know, Dr. Roger C. Byrd passed away in October of 2020. Dr. Byrd was the Program Director of the First AOCD/AOA approved hospital-based Dermatology Program in the Osteopathic Profession which began in 1980 at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital.
To honor Dr. Byrd and his love of writing, the AOCD and The Foundation for Osteopathic Dermatology has renamed the Annual Paper Writing Contest as
“The Roger C. Byrd DO, FAOCD, FAAD Dermatology Resident Manuscript Competition”.
This competition is being funded in part from donations made by the Byrd Family to the Foundation’s Pinnacle Table.
Dr. Byrd served the AOCD in many leadership roles over the years, earning both Life Member and Fellow of Distinction status in the College.
Dr. Byrd served as President of the AOCD from 1981-1982. In addition, he served on numerous committees, including the Awards Committee from 2005-2020, the ByLaws Committee from 1991-1996, the Nominating Committee from 1991-1992, and the Public Relations Committee from 1989-2003.
The AOCD is grateful to Dr. Byrd for his many years of membership and service to the College.
The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology and the Foundation for Osteopathic Dermatology announce the Roger C. Byrd, DO, FAOCD, FAAD Clinical Manuscript Competition. The annual awards are presented to recognize the dermatology residents’ manuscripts which are judged as the best in this competition for originality, degree of scientific contribution and thoughtfulness of presentation.
